FOR DR. ADAM BODE, WHEN THE DEBATE IS OVER, SLANDER BECOMES THE TOOL OF THE LOSER (SMH)

FOR DR. ADAM BODE, WHEN THE DEBATE IS OVER, SLANDER BECOMES THE TOOL OF THE LOSER (SMH)

Well, that was quick.

The other day, I happened upon a viral Instagram video that make a bold claim - that "the Manosphere was lying to you", about the question of female body count, i.e., average number of women's sex partners. Understandably, as one of the founding fathers of the Black Manosphere Online and the Black Manosphere Conclave in particular, coupled with Dr. Adam Bode's vague and amorphous accusations of the Manosphere at large, I leapt into action. My concerns with Dr. Bode's 300K-plus views video is as follows:

1. That, as noted above, Dr. Bode failed to specify exactly who in the Manosphere was "lying" on the female body count question.

2. That Dr. Bode's sole name check, Andrew Tate, was itself problematic, given Dr. Bode's accusation of Tate as a "rapist" without benefit of Tate having had his day in court and being found guilty by a jury of his peers.

3. That the data that I provided, a 2012 survey of 3K Black American men and women and funded by Trojan the condom manufacturer, found that the average lifetime number of sex partners on the part of Black women were (drumroll, please) ten. I used those numbers on the grounds that getting accurate data along these lines for Black Americans has proven to be particularly hard to come by - and, that I used this data in my presentation at the Black Manosphere Conclave in Las Vegas just last month, entitled "Sexual Intelligence: Upping Your Bedroom Game".

All of this was put in the form of a 2,500 word open letter that I posted to the Black Manosphere website, both my Facebook personal and fan pages, AND I personally sent a link to said open letter to Dr. Bode via Instagram Direct Messenger. His reply was cordial, and even indicated that it informed his retraction video that he did a day later - all of which is a matter of public record. He retracted his initial claim, and while I thought his move in doing so could have been tighter - especially given his position as an academic, dating science and love researcher and social media influencer (the man is SELLING HIS SERVICES ON INSTAGRAM FOR GOD'S SAKE), I was cool to take the "W" and keep it moving.

Then, this morning, this happened.

I arose to see a brand new Instagram video titled, "Manosphere Podcaster is a D*ck", in which he says the following:

"Why I no longer interact with the manosphere. I'm Dr. Adam Bode, interdisciplinary love and human mating researcher. No advice, just science. For science-based insights into your love experience or your sex life, I can write a report for you, whether you do it on your own or with someone else. More about me or the reports on my profile or website. Recently, I was invited by a self-proclaimed manosphere podcaster to appear on his podcast. Look, I, I go on podcasts, but the podcasts I'm prepared to go on are a bit more scientific a-and a bit more credible and not trying to find gotcha moments. He approached me, uh, by countering something I had said and suggesting I was a poor science communicator and got something wrong. The evidence he provided for this was, like, not, not appropriate, and it didn't make his point very well. Anyway, I respectfully declined. I explained I'm too busy, which is the main reason, but also gave him a bit about the, like, information. Uh, I'm not great at podcasts. I'm not great at debating. You know, I, I'm not an expert in this area. So look, let's, let's just let it go. I replied in good faith, and then the next day, he copied my DM and posted it on a blog.

What a dick, right? So anyone who's worked in social media or comms or journalism knows you ask before you publish, and if you don't get consent to publish, you summarize. What a dick. Anyway, as a result, I just won't be replying to any Instagram or TikTok messages from anyone associated with the manosphere."

Manosphere Podcaster Is A D*ck - Oct 1, 2026

Wow. Just...wow.

So, the good doctor's main beef with me is that I have somehow broken his or a, sacred trust in publishing our Instagram Direct Messenger discourse, on the grounds of a violation of journalistic ethics, best practices and standards. OK, let's look at that, shall we?

First, neither of us made the upfront disclaimer that out conversation was off the record. Second, Instagram is a public platform, a platform that Dr. Bode has no qualms making all manner of claims about AND selling his services on, as recently as this morning(!). And third, when you're a public figure, you have to be hyper aware of what you say, especially when you're actually on a public platform, like Instagram.

Second, the Trojan/The Grio survey was legitimate no matter how you slice it - again, a Black doctor went over the whole thing with a fine tooth comb and signed off on it(!) - nor did Dr. Bode himself point exactly how or why my citing it was "inappropriate" either.

Honestly, this just looks like someone who is embarrassed, which is both regrettable and understandable; but he was the one who made the, honestly outrageous claims that were proven to be indefensible upon closer inspection. It's a sobering reminder that what makes for great content on a reel often falls apart when taken to a longer form forensic podcast, or on the written page. Something you would think an academic would know and understand.

Oh, well.

But what this little episode has taught him and other fellow travelers of his, is this: That the Manosphere has its own in-house thinkers, writers and intellectuals - and we will defend ourselves from spurious claims.

We, will be watching.

You have been warned...

Sincerely,

Mumia Obsidian Ali
